May I Be

May I be content,
but never so content
that I forget to question
the ways of our living, to listen
for the origin of my soul.

May I be anchored,
but never so anchored
that I forget the universe
is more than we can imagine,
and God is not a person.

May I be present,
but never so present
that I forget the condition
of the earth, and the mission
of myth and tradition.

Like the ocean edge restless,
reaching for shore, falling back
to source, skin mirroring light
and shadow, resting and rising
with sunrise and storms, yet
deep beneath lies presence
unmoved by wars and glories,
cradles and graves, by the rising
and falling of empires and days.

May I live with passion
that knows its transience.

May I live with integrity
that knows its darkness.

May I live with faith
that knows its blindness.

May I always remember to live.
