In this world of ours, there are so many voices demanding our attention. Our opinions. Our answers. Our action. Our belief.

We need space where our nervous systems can rest from all the noise. Space where we can drop the weight of this world’s expectations and just breathe.

We need healing gardens.

Healing gardens are exactly what they sound like – gardens that are specially designed with healing in mind. I’ve seen them in private backyards and on hospital grounds. These gardens beckon us off the beaten path and offer a space where we can rest unseen by other eyes.

They are spaces where the contradictions of life can breathe the same air for a moment. Spaces where mystery is welcome. Spaces where the life of the spirit can stretch and grow.

Spaces that allow healing to come.

Never underestimate
the healing power
of a quiet moment in the garden.

– Josephine Albert

Sometimes, this kind of space can be more than physical. A healing garden can be any space that allows healing to come into our lives. I am deeply interested in the ways healing comes, by way of a garden or otherwise. If you would like to read more there is a collection of articles linked below for you to enjoy.

Welcome.

Odd as I am sure it will appear to some, I can think of no better form of personal involvement in the cure of the environment than that of gardening. A person who is growing a garden, if he is growing it organically, is improving a piece of the world.

I asked the boy beneath the pines.
He said: the Master’s gone alone
herb picking somewhere on the mount,
cloud-hidden, whereabouts unknown.
