First, follow the Facebook page From The Ground Up. It’s where you will stay up-to-date on news and local events. You will also be able to connect with others who share our concern.
I’m looking into options for merchandise that is printed with our message. Wearing the words starts conversations and increases awareness. For now, talk about it whenever you can. Ask people to contact their representatives. Tell them we want it stopped completely, not just regulated.
Read about it. The United Sludge Free Alliance has some excellent resources. Check out the documentaries Kiss the Ground and Common Ground and Biosludged.
Most importantly, laugh. Cook good food. Love your people.
This is a long game. There will be no quick or easy resolution. Entrenched mindsets do not change quickly, especially when they are fortified with money, or the fear of losing money. Legislation moves at the speed of… well, nothing slow enough comes to mind.
This issue is urgent, yes. Continual pressure and repeated action is what will create change. And engaging in change-making can bring burnout. I don’t want that, for myself or anyone else. What I am trying to do here is keep you informed, share ideas for how to help, and create a community of people who care about the health of our local soil and water. What I will not do is spread fear and create an urgent mindset that cannot rest.
Fear drains our energy and we need all the energy we have.
This practice of spreading toxic sludge must stop, and it will. I have no doubt. The when is what is uncertain.
Just remember this: the earth, like a woman, is resilient. We can heal the damage. We can change mindsets. We can live better. And we will. While we’re getting there, let’s stay balanced and healthy.
If you are a person of prayer, if you are a person of meditation, if you are someone who draws on the power of visualization or intention, use these tools. Because there’s a funny little thing in science called “the observer effect”. In short, a system or situation that is observed will begin reacting and changing. Perhaps herein lies the mystery behind the prayers, the meditations, and the intentions. A thread of truth winds through all of it.
See our soil healed and alive. See our water clean. See our food vibrant with health. See our earth loved and cared for. See our society coming together.
Let it not be said of us that we did nothing.
