What’s in the tea?
This tea blend begins with a base of gunpowder green tea. This green tea gets its name from the days of long ago when the tea leaves were rolled tightly to stay fresh during shipping on the long ocean crossings. The tightly wrapped pellets of tea looked a bit like the pellets of gunpowder that were used in those days. Gunpowder green tea is deep and vibrant with a bold taste, and is still known for its freshness today. I chose it for its ability to hold up to the flavor additions of the herbals I love to use.
To bring in additional energizing qualities while centering the body, I added Yerba mate and Tulsi. Yerba mate is a nutrient-rich caffeine boost that has positive effects on mood and mental focus. Tulsi is a mild and safe adaptogen for all seasons of life. It is rich in anti-oxidants and has an immediate calming effect upon the body, helping to bring it back to a state of homeostasis. It eases the effects of oxidative stress, and is also known to soothe anxiety.
Lemon balm and Moldavian Dragonhead add a bright, lemony essence and additional health benefits. Lemon balm is known for boosting mood and mental clarity. Moldavian Dragonhead is similar to lemon balm, but with a stronger honey lemon flavor. In herbalism it has long been used for headaches, and also lends digestive support.
Ginger mint brings a mild sweet mint flavor to these lemony powerhouses, and calendula petals bring cheer. Calendula has many health benefits, but its presence here is for its ability to release any tension in the body, especially the abdominal muscles. Sage brings herbal sweetness and digestive support, and is also known to be good for the memory. JJ Pursell, author of The Herbal Apothecary, has this to say of sage: “Sage helps those who are unable to move forward in life because they think they do not deserve good things, and those who have difficulty finding power and purpose in life.”
Last but not least, orange and lemon peels bring a burst of citrusy flavor, which plays well with the verdant, minty essence of this blend.
Even on the most bedraggled of days, there’s still a song and a sun in you.

Tea story:
This blend has been in my life, in one form or another, for years. In the exhausting years of early motherhood, sleep-deprived nights had me facing the afternoon hours with dread and weariness. I needed some caffeine, but without the caffeine crash and digestive discomfort that coffee gave me.
I’m now able to enjoy a good cup of coffee again, for which I am grateful. It’s just that my body was simply asking for something different at that time. I listened, and Here Comes the Sun was born. It’s been a favorite of everyone to whom I’ve given it over the years. I hope it brightens your days as much as it has mine.
“It never hurts to keep looking for sunshine.”
